Corian is a solid surface material created by DuPont in 1967 that's made from a mixture of acrylic polymer and alumina trihydrate (ATH), a natural mineral derived from bauxite ore. Corian is non-porous, easy to clean, and comes in a wide range of colors. It's often used for kitchen countertops, islands, and prefabricated sinks, but it can also be used for knife handles. It can achieve a nice polish and is also a food-safe material.

A resin fiber disc is much like a grinding disc made from abrasive cloth or paper. It differs principally in its strong heavy duty backing material. Under most circumstances resin fiber discs will greatly outlast their cloth or paper equivalents.

The natural colour of mango wood is light to golden brown. However, mango wood is often beautifully discoloured due to 'spalting' — referring to the different colors wood can turn as a result of fungus. This effect is desired by artisans who work with wood.
